Camille Styles talks to our client, Maria Wu of Studio Wu, about the creating the perfect place to enjoy a cup of coffee. “I like to observe the habits of a cat which generally translates to where the warmth of the sun streams into the space the strongest in the morning,” says Wu. No matter the project, there is always a level of warmth in her design. No accent chairs or couches are off limits, and instead her clients can really live in their space and enjoy a sense of comfort there. Visit the popular lifestyle blog to learn more about where and how to best enjoy your cappuccino.

Finding Inspiration
Sacramento Street is our favorite area to find inspiration. The shopping district straddles the Presidio Heights and Pacific Heights neighborhoods. Whether it’s checking out the Oli Ella toys at children’s store, Mapamundi Kids, or popping into the exquisite de Gournay (see above) for a quiet moment, it’s where we always find ourselves following a team lunch. Stunning flowers, right?
Where do you find inspiration? Let us know in the comments!
Welcome Ritual Coffee Roasters!
We are so excited to announce our newest client, Ritual Coffee Roasters. Ritual Coffee Roasters is a San Francisco original since 2005. The world famous and local favorite bran is fully independent and woman-owned. Ritual has been purchasing coffee directly from the farmers who grow it since 2007, when they were just a tiny, one café operation. They’ve always roasted their coffees in small batches and are pioneers of the West Coast style of light roasting that continue to illuminate the spectrum of what coffee can be. We welcomed Eileen and the Ritual team in September. Join us in welcoming this San Francisco institution to Pembroke PR!
Welcome Lesley Ray Design!
We are thrilled to announce our new client, Lesley Ray Design. After a decade of designing and managing multi-million dollar corporate interior projects for world-renowned tech clients, Lesley brings that same rigor to her residential projects. Lesley’s design philosophy emphasizes the intersection of collaboration, attention to detail and intention. She believes that this seamless integration of architectural feasibility, artistic expression, and psychological congruence forms a collective core that should be evident in any successful interior space. The interior design firm joined us in August. Join us in welcoming Lesley Ray Design!
Feeling Thankful
We have a lot to be thankful for this year. We’d love to share what’s on our list…
For Temi
Health. Pandemic living really highlighted the beauty of good health. I’m thankful for this one every day. I really make sure I prioritize a baseline of high quality food, daily movement/exercise, lots of water, and sleep.
Books. Oh man, I LOVE a good book. I usually read fiction and listen to audio. Favorites this year include:
Girl, Woman, Other
The Midnight Library
The Idea of You
We Should all Be Millionaires (non fiction)
The Expectation Effect (non fiction)
Mating in Captivity (non fiction)
And hurrah! My book is out in December! Your Special Voice
Family! Perhaps an obvious one but human connection is so fundamental to our wellbeing. I have my immediate family at home with me, and my extended family is really spread out and living in three countries (on three separate continents). We’re close knit so wouldn’t have anticipated we’d all live so far apart but…life. Forever thankful for excellent technology that enables us all to see each other regularly and speak daily (Yes, daily! I make those time differences work!)
For Courtney
Relationships. Whether it’s a school drop-off friend, childhood best friend, or Instagram friend, I appreciate these friendships. I value the silly banter, check-in’s, gif’s, activism pushes, the love that goes back and forth in real life and virtually.
White Lotus, Season 2. This one is a bit silly, sure. But that aside, superior season (IMHO), great cast, gorgeous location, and a fun watch at the end of a busy day. Plus it’s a reminder to us to plan that Italy trip.
Renovated kitchen. Oh how happy I am that we have more counter space, better lighting and pretty palette to look at while making school lunches. The kitchen before was a poor flip and put, it was a bummer. Now, we enjoy having friends over while munching on salty snacks over the peninsula countertop. Do I ever want to do a kitchen renovation again? God no. But so thankful for this one.
For Lianna
My SF experience. I’ve lived in the city for 2 years now, and I couldn’t ask for a better group of friends to have around me, a more fun city to explore, and a better job that allows me to explore the beauty of the design world of SF. I love the hustle and bustle, I love the culture, and I love that there is always something to do. It’s rich in history and hidden gems, and I feel so lucky to be able to live here and call SF my home. The communities I’m a part of truly feel like a chosen family, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
Music. One of the most important things to me to have back since the height of the pandemic is live music, concerts, and festivals. I don’t think I ever feel more alive than in a crowd with people I love, dancing to the music we love, in a beautiful place. Music will never cease to make me feel what ever it is I need to feel with nonjudgement.
The air in my lungs. One day is here, the next day is gone. The perspective that life is a beautiful fleeting gift really gets me through the toughest of times.
Wishing our community time and space to reflect on what you are thankful for.
Ready, Set, Vote.

Midterms are coming up. And of course there’s no moment to forget this with with the constant texts and calls we are all receiving 24/7. Kudos to those campaign volunteers, too. It’s not always fun to call voters at 6 pm on a Tuesday, just ask our account manager Courtney who volunteered during the last election. That said, it’s helpful to remind people of quality candidates and helpful voting information.
Important dates for California voters:
The last day to register to vote for the November 8, 2022, General Election is October 24, 2022.
All California active registered voters will receive a vote-by-mail ballot for the November 8, General Election.
Your county elections office will begin mailing ballots no later than October 10, 2022
Return your vote-by-mail ballot by mail with prepaid postage as long as it's postmarked on or before Election Day and received by November 15, 2022, or in-person to a secure ballot drop box, to a voting location or your county elections office by 8:00 p.m. on November 8, 2022

Taking a Stand for Reproductive Rights & Resources
Access to reproductive healthcare is at risk in the US. According to an initial draft majority opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito, the Supreme Court has voted to strike down Roe vs. Wade. This means access to abortions will become illegal in many states, in turn putting the health of people with a uterus in danger. Ending Roe vs. Wade would be an attack on bodily autonomy. It is a fundamental right for people to make their own health decisions. Please visit the links below to learn more on how you can help put a stop to this control of basic human rights and provide monetary support for abortion fund groups.

Spring Newsletter 2022
Spring has officially sprung and we're feeling all the feels.
Fresh off Spring Break, we're finding ourselves drawn to new beginnings that often seem to pop up with a new season. The pretty cherry blossoms, longer days, more sunshine, unpredictable SF weather. With more in-person events, both those we plan and those we get invited to, it seems like many around us are also ready to embrace the new season.
A spring refresh, whether that's cleaning out the hall closet, or switching your throw pillows for something lighter like linen.
We'd love to know, what do you love the most about Spring?
– Recent Press –
This month, we are sharing the California Waterside Retreat by Julie Rootes Interiors and the Forest Knolls Makeover by Regan Baker Design featured on the popular lifestyle blog, Camille Styles. These fresh and soothing bedrooms are the epitome of clean and spring-ready spaces.

Temi…
Read: The Idea Of You. Such a fun, frolicking, jet-set, glamorous read. The ultimate in escapism.
Ate/Cooked: Stress-cooked Nigerian food last week. Jollof rice is a labor of love.
Played: Scrabble! I loved Scrabble as a kid and now I love playing as a family.
Bought: Has my family turned me into a gear head? Maybe. I bought some Oakley goggles, on the recommendation of my 8 year old son, and he was right, they’re amazing!
Courtney…
Read: Wreckage of My Presence by Casey Wilson. It's heartbreaking, smart and so funny.
Ate/Cooked: I definitely need a food refresh as I have been doing lunches on the fly. We are starting a CSA box subscription so that we can get fun produce for dinner that can carry into next-day leftovers - my favorite.
Played: T-ball. Ok, so I am not playing t-ball but my son is. And apparently he might be a switch hitter!
Bought: A LOT. We just finished our kitchen and detached office so now it's time to decorate. I’ve been eyeing this for the open shelf in the kitchen and this, this, and this for the office.
Lianna…
Read: Fierce Feminine Rising by Anaiya Sophia - all about healing, recentering your personal power, and how to tap into the collective universal uprising of the divine urge to seek justice. It’s… incredible.
Ate/Cooked: Super yummy flank steak with pomme frites dinner with my best friend. We paired it with a delicious pear salad.
Played: Wordle. Every day. My friends and I share our scores daily and the other day my friend got the word on the first try!
Bought: Tickets to see the Selena movie (yup, the one from 1997) in theaters with my friend for a sing-along, interactive show. If you know me, you know Selena is my queen.
Wellness Kit version 3.0
Another year, another wellness kit! As our team continues to grow, we’re delighted to bring you more new ways to check in with yourself, mentally and physically, that have worked wonders for the Pembroke PR team. While the light at the end of the COVID tunnel shines brighter and brighter, recent conflict and tragedy have brought fear and stress to many all over the world, especially to those directly affected. We hope these suggestions for release and reflection can help if you have the opportunity, time, and safety to try them out!
From Temi…
Move. Still my number one. As a lifelong gym user, the past two years have been a great opportunity to really figure out some other ways to move my body. Exercise is a visceral need for me, physically and mentally. I feel better and happier when I do. Year one of the pandemic I biked a lot and this year, I've been mixing it up more with barre and yoga and a lot of skiing at the weekends. I still walk A LOT on a daily basis.
Sleep. I love my sleep! Always have, always will. I notice a big difference in my energy, mood and mental capacity if I don't get enough sleep. My sleep has been more consistent over the past year and I think that's down to better sleep hygiene. It's something that's spoken about frequently....but it works! Winding down earlier, minimal evening social media and blue light glasses to protect my eyes.
Read. I've been on a kick with female Nigerian authors recently and it's been fantastic. The accuracy with the frame of references makes me feel so seen! Recent favorites include, Yinka, Where Is Your Huzband, Love in Color, Wahala, Ace of Spades. If you're new to contemporary Nigerian literature, I'd recommend some of my all time favorites, Half Of A Yellow Sun, Stay With Me (is anyone making this absolute banger a film yet?), The Girl With The Louding Voice, The Icarus Girl, Children of Blood and Bone, My Sister The Serial Killer, The Death Of Vivek Oji. People always ask how I have time to read.....I barely watch anything on TV and I don't spend much time on social media in the evening!
Vitamin D. This one is very closely connected with #1 but a burst of fresh air first thing in the morning is the absolute best thing. Whether it's a quick or long Presidio Hike, neighborhood walk or time skiing high up in the alpine air, nothing expands my lungs like filling them with fresh air and some mood boosting Vitamin D! It's also connected to breathwork and I've been making more of a conscious effort to take several deep belly breaths when I'm out and about in the morning.
Learn. Our team recently did the character strength test and in a surprise to nobody, curiosity and love of learning were two of my top 5. I've always been fascinated by storytelling and psychology and this year I finally carved out the time to do a deeper dive into both and I'm absolutely loving it. I was a little wary of adding yet another thing to my plate but it brings so much value through interest and enjoyment. Once I figured out a structure to support my studies, it made it all much more feasible!
From Courtney…
Get out of town. A chance of scenery is always welcomed for me. It helps me not fixate on things that need to be done in the house. And instead, it gives me time to enjoy a new town or city or trail or beach. We can't always make an overnight trip work but even just a day trip to SF to our favorite coffee shop. Or a visit to Petaluma to see our cousins. These trips out do often involve traffic, but they also give us a chance to reset, and see something new.
Organize. Sure its not a glamorous wellness tip, but the ROI on being organized is through the roof for me. Taking on the hall closet, linen closet or medicine cabinet? It does wonders for my mental health. Cleaning out what we don't need, and keeping and tidying up what we do need always leaves me feeling refreshed and certainly more in control. Our homes always collect so much, and before I know it our once large spaces now feel cramped. And so tidying up not only gives me my space back but also some peace of mind.
Music. You'd think we'd have music on all the time with the record player only steps away from the kitchen, Spotify on our phones and Google tablet on our counter. But, I always forget to turn it on. Lately, I've been turning on a favorite Dawes record, or the Sing (I&II) soundtrack for my son. It immediately lightens the mood, creates conversation and maybe even a dance party if we are lucky. I also hear that the French cafe station on Spotify is great for dinner time.
Podcasts. I really love my podcast line up. They are such a wonderful retreat from the hectic work day, and non stop with kids. I listen to this, this, and this quite a bit. I also love these guys. And I'm never not looking for a mystery type podcast. A bit silly, but its such a joy to listen to my ‘podcast friends’ break down the art of small talk or discuss the ridiculousness of the Real Housewives franchises.
Date day/night. Whether it’s solo, or with friends, or with my husband - a night out for dinner or lunch is cherished. We don't have to worry about the kid's menu, and we can instead just enjoy our adult meals. It also encourages me to dress up a tad which is an instant mood booster. In fact, I'm headed back to a favorite spot next week with a friend. I plan to sit at the bar and have a slice of their amazing chocolate cake.
From Lianna…
Vent. My processing of what's going on in the world works best when I can talk, learn, and share feelings about whatever it is that's weighing on me. It's easy to feel overwhelmed when your thoughts are trapped inside or you feel like you don't have the whole truth or understanding of something. Connect with people you trust, look up to, or feel comfortable engaging in some discourse or just releasing how you feel. Maybe those you share with harness the same feelings and you can work through it together. Maybe they don't and it's a learning opportunity. Hearing other's perspectives are so important for growth and the collective knowledge of the world.
Wellness walks. Temi said it perfectly - there's something incredibly healing about fresh air and the sun on your skin. I start my day with a walk up to Twin Peaks or around my neighborhood 4-5 times a week and it feels like a major reset. It reminds me that other people are around me, the world is still turning, and that i can find the beauty in every where I go. I get a serotonin boost, more positive outlook, movement in my body, and a fresh mind to start the day.
Turn it up. You can dance like no one's watching, scream sing at the top of you lungs, cry, smile - there's nothing like the feeling music can give you. Whether I'm in my car or in my house, I try to have moments of mindless activity where I'm listening to music and really paying attention to how it's making me feel - do I want to groove? Curl up in a ball? And I just let myself feel it. I also love to dance while I roller skate - talk about feeling like a diva goddess.
Hobbies. Letting yourself feel is important and is always valued and valid. The next step that can be helpful is harnessing that energy into something that can be an outlet or enrich your life. I just mentioned roller skating which was a quarantine activity of mine that stuck with me. I'm inspired by other skaters who dance and love to push myself to achieve their level of skill and happiness on skates. I also picked up crocheting again recently and while it can be done semi-mindlessly, there is some focus so it's great for creativity and just clearing your mind for an hour or 2.
Hugs. Hug. It. Out. Whenever you can, where ever you can, as long as you feel comfortable. I'm talking a genuine embrace, too. It's a release, a boost, and a moment of purity. Remember, you're never alone.
